When talking about working efficiently one of the major deal- breaker is working hard against working smartly. Both types of work are important however the more important aspect is which type of work helps me to progress and make the most in the minimum amount of time. However, understanding what both types of work are and where each can be used is important.
Hard work is working and spending long hours to complete work and it’s getting the work done without short cuts. Whereas looking at smart work is when you can get the same result by planning and prioritization of tasks.
So, let’s look at some differences between Hard work Vs Smart work
No short cuts Vs Prioritize
Long and stressful Vs Planning
Tedious Vs Faster results
Consistently working Vs Smartly approaching work
Traditional way of working Vs. Innovative
Goal orientated Vs. Flexible with goals but working towards achieving it.
Hard work is good but working smart helps you to get the job done in the smallest time possible. What are some aspects to keep in mind when wanting to work smartly?
Look at what is important – ignore what is low-priority. Often employees get caught up doing what is less important than what is the priority of the hour. So turning your attention to what is the most important is crucial.
Eliminate distractions – keep your eyes on the goal. Many times, we have a goal but very soon distractions come and make us lose focus. So, keep your eye for distractions that can deter you from the path that you need to be on.
Keep your to do list shorter. When we have a long to do list, it can make us a little uneasy thinking that I have a lot to do. This can be a thought that will handicap your growth and will sometimes throw us off our track.
Keep a close eye on the results and not the time. We can get side lined by the time line instead of the results because we are concerned with the time that this task is taking.
Have regular breaks to keep yourself active. Working non-stop can affect the way you work, the way you think and speak.
Set short deadlines for yourself. Setting deadlines are important but having long deadlines may give a feeling of not being able to complete a task. This may give a feeling of not being able to accomplish any task which might be detrimental to finishing tasks on time.
How does working smart help you?
Working smart helps to save your energy. This in turn helps to accomplish challenging tasks with greater energy and produce better results. This also helps to increase productivity. It enables to streamline work and combine tasks that are similar together. This increases self-esteem in oneself. As you finish work and see results, this will help you to believe in yourself. This will bring up the confidence that you need to face every day at work and to bring out the best results.
